Finishing an Army

I have done it. I have a fully painted, fully based 2,000 point Black Templar army for Warhammer 40k.

This is the first time ever that I have finished an army. Every model painted and based, no half finished units or stand ins.

Phew!

For many 40k players, they will have several armies of varying sizes. But I think everyone remembers their first proper army.

I started collecting Black Templars as a house warming present to myself.1 Before buying the Templars, I had (and still have) an incomplete Ork army, and before the Orks I had Necrons and Tyranids. The Necrons and Tyranids never really took off for me, and Orks feel like my first proper army.

But as I finished the last two models to get me to 2k points2, I felt that these black clad Space Marines were my main squeeze. Maybe it is the completeness, or maybe just my short attention span focusing on what is in front of me, but these are my dudes.

Now, with 40k, the points aren’t stable, so I might need to expand to stay at 2k points if there are major points changes with the new edition. I also would appreciate having a few options to tailor my army to what I am up against.

After much internal debate, I will be getting the Space Marine half of Armageddon, so that is a natural way to expand the Black Templars. But do I want them to be Black Templars. Will that disrupt this feeling of completeness that I have achieved? Or should I make them a new project?

I’ll have to have a think!

  1. Bad time to start a new hobby project, moving into a doer-upper!

  2. A Repulsor Executioner and a Redemptor Dreadnought.
