Hot Hobby Update
It is hot and dry in England, has been for a while, will be for a while.
On a positive note, I have been painting more. Moving my hobby space to a small bureau in the hall and an airbrush set up in the garage has actually made me want to get painting. It helps that both spaces are relatively clear and clutter free, so there are no distractions. Over the past couple of weeks, I have painted a Space Marine Ancient, 3 Eradicators, 5 Vanguard Veterans and a Land Speeder, all of my Black Templars. These are nice projects, because I have a trued and tested painting recipe for them. It’s a quick and dirty recipe, but I enjoy it and it gets the job done. I have improved the recipe by base coating the matt black with the airbrush, and that has saved me a good chunk of time. I’ll have the Armageddon box finished in no time.
As well as painting more, I have been playing more 40k! I haven’t won a game yet, but I am enjoying the new edition. I still need to write up the in character part of my last game, to expand to lore for Kueller’s Vowsworn… My friend and I have started a mini campaign using the Dominatus cards, which should add a nice twist to the disposition match ups. As a casual player, I don’t enjoy fine tuning my standard to a game mode I know and have played numerous times. Instead I want to try new things and chuck bucket loads of dice. Thankfully with a blob of angry crusaders, I do get to chuck a lot of dice….
I have been neglecting my other games, with two exceptions. The first is Star Wars Unlimited, which I have built a nice Greef Blue deck and continue to play once or twice a week. The other is an online game of Mythic Bastionland, with a large scale twist, which is super interesting, super nerdy, and my first proper foray into role playing games with anyone other than my younger brothers! I really want to run a campaign of Mythy B now… Maybe something to do next year!
I am hoping to get another game of 40k in next week (a win would be nice!) as well as to maybe paint something not Black Templar related. The next wave of Halo Flashpoint will be coming out soon, so maybe I will paint up the rest of my Spartans for that. My plans for my Bolt Action Soviet army are forming in my head, but that will be a bigger project which I will save for later.
