Personal blog or hobby blog?
When I started this, I thought I knew what I wanted it to be. Somewhere to post battle reports and tournament breakdowns. I was going to record the ins and outs of my various hobbies, Warhammer, Blood Bowl, painting etc etc.
This would be a way I could look back over my hobby, both hold myself accountable for regularly engaging with my hobbies and to share what I have learned. I would give insights into how tournaments went, give tips and tricks for how to play Skaven, or review the various different games I played.
When I started I did not imagine that I would want to just blog.
I didn’t dream that I would write about sprinklers and sunsets, or engage with other blogs that were not focused on my hobbies.
But I find that I have the urge to do just that. I enjoy exploring the Bear Blog Discover page, focusing on most recent rather than what is trending (although there are gems there from time to time). I like reading the various types of blog, from in depth hobby posts, to stream of consciousness.
But do I just want to do this because that is what a lot of other blogs are? Is a part of me feeling a pressure to conform with what I see around me?
Should I do both? Should I keep them separate? Should one be private, anonymous even, and the other open and shared.
It has been a long time since I have shared on the internet. The novelty and appeal of social media quickly died for me, and I missed an era of personalised spaces, growing up instead with an increasingly attention focused Instagram.
So I need to experiment. I need to find my groove, and discover what I want. What I want to write and share, and how I want to do that.
Right now, I see this as almost an open journal. A catchall for everything. I will try to keep it organised with tags, so that any visitors can seek out what they want to read. This might change, I might break it down into parts, but for now, let’s keep it all here, in one place.
I’ll see how I get on.
