Setting up a hobby space in the garage

Times a changing, and we need to rejig the rooms in the house, which means I will no longer have half the spare room to store and paint my minis. My desk, billy bookcase and overflow all need to move.

The desk is easy. We have a bureau in the hall which we have always used as a dumping ground for odds and sods (light bulbs, unimportant letters, spare batteries and the like). I have cleared that out, and it will have plenty of space for my painting bits. It won’t fit all of the minis (painted and unpainted, built and unbuilt), so I have also cleared a space at the back of the garage.

This week I put up some Rhino Racking. This is budget friendly racking which just sort of slots together. Thin metal frame holds up thin mdf boards. I would not call this heavy duty, but it does the job and looks quite smart. Paired with an old kitchen cabinet1, I have a decent space in the garage both for storage and as a mini workshop. I’ll be setting up an airbrush here, which I don’t really want to be using in the house.

I love watching Trent Holbrook’s videos, and he has just moved studio. Watching him move so much so quickly has really inspired me to actually get my shit together and set up this hobby space. The racks and the worktop are in place now, so I just need to move in.

I’ll let you know once this is done. If I haven’t by next weekend, have a go at me will you?

  1. I saved the best cabinet from our old kitchen when we renovated. I knew we would need it for something!
