Chains, barrel holes and super glue

After the marathon yesterday, all of my plastic from the Armageddon box set is built, but there were some finishing touches to do today.

Between dog walks, shopping, and seeing my dad for father’s day and a bbq, I tinkered with my lil’ plastic men. To start with, I glued chains to their weapons. This is a hallmark of the Black Templars, who are chained to their weapons to represent the eternal crusade in the name of the god emperor. Fanatical lunatics, but looks cool.

I bought some 2mm jewellery chain from Hobbycraft, and wrapped small amounts around each model’s hands and weapons. I used super glue to keep it in place. The effect is easy, and is a quick transformation from generic marine to templar.

Unfortunately it involves super glue. God damn I hate the stuff. It sticks to my hands far more than it sticks to anything else, it gets old and loses its stickiness far too quickly, it seems to set with a mind of its own.

Mainly I hate it because it gets stuck on my fingers.

Maybe I should use gloves.

I managed to get all but two of the models done before I ran out of super glue. Not bad.

The next job was drilling barrels. Sometimes I don’t bother with this step, but it does help with the look of the weapons. It is also not that much of a chore, and I managed to get all of them done in about half an hour. It was particularly important on the heavy bolters, which look so much better with their barrels drilled out.

These steps help bring the characters to life, and I’ll be glad I did them once I get to painting.
